The easiest way to get comparable insurance rates
Comments: I used it when I worked at an insurance agency for 8 years and it was very beneficial when giving rates to my clients and finding the best value and coverages for them.
Pros:
This was a life saver when I worked in insurance. You plug in all your customer's information including information about their homes/vehicles - whatever you are quoting and it runs reports and gives you accurate rates for all the products you are putting together. Unless you were given false information, the prices quoted are fairly accurate.
Cons:
The reports take a little long to run and sometimes the communication between the program and the insurance company's rating software can take a while to connect - but overall, no major cons.
PL rater - a convenient way to quote all your PL companies in 1 place.
Comments: I love how convenient it is and all the companies are in one place. You just have to enter all of the information once and be done with it. They should have this with commercial lines.
Pros:
The best part of PL rater would be quoting all of the companies in 1 place. It is pretty easy to use, and super convenient. You do not have to go to the 30 different companies each and quote everything over and over again. I also love the Single sign on. I also like that from our agency management system you can connect right to PL rater with the info used in our system.
Cons:
If i didn't have the single sign on, I would be so frustrated. It is also annoying if you enter the claims in the PL rater, and then go to the company you picked and run the reports the claim is now on there twice. Also, I think the company question portion should be a list of all the questions once. Most companies repeat the questions and you have to answer the same question 30 times. It actually prevents me from clicking on ALL of our companies because i don't want to sit there and answer the same questions over and over again. have a list of questions and if a company doesn't need that question that it just doesn't transfer to there website.
Alternatives Considered:
Helpful but not the best
Comments: Overall I would say it is a helpful tool to use when working on quotes with multiple carriers but there is a lot of room for improvement with the accuracy of rates provided in the rater system. It does give the individual carrier specific questions to input which is helpful but it would be even more useful and speed up the workflow process if the rates were the same as what you'd get when quoting directly in the carrier system.
Pros:
Overall I like the ability to use the rating system to work up quotes with a number of different companies at once - it helps speed up the process when trying to see policies and gives us a point in the right direction to see what the best company to place the customer with.
Cons:
The cons with the use of this system is that the rates generated with the varies companies it's set up with aren't always the most accurate. Overall I find that most times when I launch into the actual carriers website I have to tweak the quote a little bit and end up with a different rate than provided in PL Rater. More often then not the rate is a little higher once in the carrier site then what what quotes in the rater but generally the range of rates provided are still in a similar order as to who is most expensive vs. least expensive so it gives you a direction to move in but could be better on accuracy. Another thing I find is that the underwriting feature when pulling prior history is inconsistent. It will randomly pull when there are prior claims or violations but more often doesn't pull anything when it should be running that information on every quote.
It is easy to use and it saves me so much time when i am quoting clients!

Pros:
I love that I can just add all of my clients information in and it rates all of our companies. It saves so much time. I can also upload info straight from our Applied system.
Cons:
I don't like that i cant always get a general quote - this might not be PL rater system - it might be the companies but sometimes there are too many companies that say error.

Pros:
PL Rater is very easy to use and it allows you to get a quote in no time!
Cons:
Companies often update their underwriting and that can sometimes lead to an inaccurate quote. The software is updated often though, so it’s not very common that the issue arises.

It will give you options to pick several companies to quote through.

In lots of cases, the rates are not correct. And has to be bridged to verify the rate even if you put the information in correctly.
Easy and Simple
Comments: We love it. So many integration options and the admin settings are easy to understand and navigate.
Pros:
Admin settings are very easy to navigate. Carrier log-in is pretty simple and takes just a few minutes to set up. Integration to our CRMS is so nice.
Cons:
Some people either do not know/ want to give their address from 3+ years ago. We should be able to over ride this instead of putting the incorrect amount of time in that section,
Rating System
Comments: PL rating saves us so much time putting the clients information into one system, not having to do it many times with each company we want to quote.
Pros:
I like the ease of use, you put in all the clients information in one system
Cons:
Not to much I didn't like about the system very simple to understand

Comments: I would not recommend this to an agency that deals with homes being in a high wildfire area.
Pros:
The bridging between our client management system and PL rater worked great, and back to the CM system. It was easy to set up the software and customize it to our office standards
Cons:
The biggest issue that we have is that they do not have a system implemented to quote Fair Plan companion policies. Also there were some major discrepancies between the quote in the rater and the quote with the company. Normally the quote with the company, and changing nothing between the systems, was always a lot higher. We could not rely that the quote that the rater would give us was the accurate number.

We use the PL Rater in our office when quoting new business or requoting a current customer. Saves lots of time! And very easy to use.

Updating passwords. This is a step I forget to do sometimes.
